Optical Fiber Draw Tower Technician

As an important part of manufacturing, and on occasions working with Development engineers, this full-time, hands-on shift role is responsible for preparing, setting up and drawing preforms in to optical fiber before it is transferred into Test.
Reporting to the Production Manager, the role will include:
- Setting up preforms on the draw tower
- Changing dies
- Performing coating changes
- Monitoring results and output throughout the process
- Filling in forms and maintaining logs, spreadsheets and databases
- Ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the equipment, trouble-shooting as required
- Identifying and conducting process improvements on existing and new products under supervision
- Glass preparation
- Weekly routine maintenance of equipment
- Adhering to all health and safety requirements
To be considered for this position, we are looking for someone with a good basic education including 5 GCSEs (or equivalent), grade C and above, to include Maths and Science. You will also need to be able to understand written and verbal instructions in English, and be computer literate, familiar with Microsoft Office applications.
As this job involves climbing up and down 20m of steps multiple times a day, the successful applicant will need to be physically fit enough to operate the tower and be willing to work under a minimum amount of supervision, often alone. The role will also suit you if you are detail conscious, self-motivated and take pride in high levels of accuracy in your work, being able to maintain concentration over long periods of time. Previous experience in manufacturing and/or shift work and first aid training would be advantageous.
In return we are offering a market rate salary depending upon experience, plus a current shift premium of 20%, and comprehensive benefits package.
