3D Shape Sensing for Angioplasty
Guiding a catheter up to the heart to run angioplasty surgical procedures, requires some method to guide the catheter through the body, typically through the use of a guide wire. One of the main techniques to achieve this is to use X-ray machines during the procedure. Two X-ray machines are utilised in order to get a cross-section through the body at 90 degrees relative to one another, so you get an x and y slice through the body. The surgeon guiding the wire has to look at two 2D images and interpret what those images are telling them, and simultaneously to insert the guide wire up through the body, a highly skilled process.log-in to view more.
