Fibercore’s Multicore Fibers allow for simultaneous transmission of different signals down different cores within the same clad diameter providing for increased data transmission density on a single fiber which is of interest in data centers. The more interesting applications though, are in shape sensing where Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBG’s) can be written into the cores allowing for differential strain to be measured on each core allowing the user to interrogate the fiber and discern the exact shape and position it is in. This is of interest in the biomedical industry for catheters and other in vivo applications. Fibercore has a family of standard designs but custom designs are possible with more cores, mis-matched cores and different core positions. Contact Fibercore for further information.
