Multicore Fiber

Multicore fibers (MCFs) have multiple isolated cores in the same fiber. Each core can have a distinct function and guide multimode (MM) signals (with large cores) or single-mode (SM) signals (with small cores). The number of cores varies from 2 to several dozens for various applications such as data transmission in data centres or 3D shape sensing for biomedical applications.
