Application: Rare-Earth Doped and Dual-Clad Fibers for Telecommunications

Rare-Earth Doped and Dual-Clad Fibers for Telecommunications

  • Overview

Fibercore pioneered the first commercial erbium-doped fibers for amplifiers in 1988 and, since then, have developed and improved the technology to provide the high conversion efficiencies demanded by the industry today. Our MetroGain™ range of fibers, designed for low-cost 'Metro' Type EDFAs offers a broad spectrum ideal for ASE sources, whilst our IsoGain™ fiber range have a core composition optimised expecially for EDFAs deployed in high channel-count DWDM systems, both supported by our GainMaster™ simulation software.

The development in 1999 of the CP1500Y fiber for our parent company at the time, Scientific Atlanta, heralded a major breakthrough in high-power laser and amplifier technology. Already deployed in thousands of CATV and FTTx systems around the world by SA, and subsequently Cisco, this revolutionary all-glass, Er/Yb dual-clad fiber was field-proven well before its launch to the marketplace in 2010. It is now complemented by a full range of components.
