<title>- NEW ALL-SILICA ERBIUM-YTTERBIUM CO-DOPED, DUAL-CLAD FIBER</title>

FIBERCORE: PUTTING CUSTOMERS FIRST
SOUTHAMPTON, UK: 24.01.09: Fibercore Limited, one of the world's leading specialty fiber manufacturers and a UK subsidiary of Cisco Systems Inc, has released its proprietary, field proven, all-silica erbium-ytterbium co-doped, dual-clad fiber to the open market. The fiber will be showcased at Photonics West (24 - 29 January 2009) on Fibercore Limited's booth #6071.
&#160;
Combining two of the Company's patented technologies, CP1500Y is not only the first, licensed erbium-ytterbium, dual-clad (cladding-pump) fiber, on the market but also the first to offer both a shaped, multi-lobed pump-guide and all-silica construction. Although at the very cutting-edge of dual-clad technology, CP1500Y has been used in Cisco's own range of high-power amplifiers since 1999 – this means that the fiber's reliability and performance has already been field-proven by the thousands of units deployed in CATV and local access networks for approaching nine years.
&#160;
Dr. Chris Emslie, Fibercore Limited's Managing Director explains “Both of these patented innovations have seen extensive use within the Cable TV industry since the late 1990s and more recently in FTTx applications. CP1500Y has now been released to the open market to target high power amplifiers for high bandwidth video and data delivery platforms including FTTx. All application areas benefit from the combination of ease-of-handling and high reliability offered by the all-silica structure, when compared with more conventional, composite silica-polymer designs. CP1500Y is the most manufacturing friendly and reliable duel-clad fiber on the market, period, so we expect demand from the communications industry to be very high.”
&#160;
Dr. Emslie concludes, “We are delighted to at last be able to offer these two proven, but still radical innovations to the open market. Erbium-ytterbium co-doping is frankly the only practical way to achieve high-power fiber-amplification at 1550nm and, when combined with our all-silica dual-clad technology, you get a product that is both more reliable and significantly easier to cleave, splice or terminate than anything else out there.&#160; Making these technologies available to more engineers and scientists, working on a broader range of applications can only help boost fiber laser and high-power amplifier development, worldwide. CP1500Y is also supported by Fibercore Limited</description>

<title>- BOW-TIE PM COUPLER FIBERS BRING ENHANCED PERFORMANCE TO THE FIBER SENSOR MARKET</title>
    <link>http://www.fibercore.com/News/tabid/65/ID/1/BOW-TIE-PM-COUPLER-FIBERS-BRING-ENHANCED-PERFORMANCE-TO-THE-FIBER-SENSOR-MARKET.aspx</link>
    <description>&#160;
FIBERCORE: PUTTING CUSTOMERS FIRST
SOUTHAMPTON, UK: 25.01.09: Fibercore Limited, the World's leading developer and manufacturer of specialty optical fibers, and a UK subsidiary of Cisco Systems, Inc has launched the HB-C range of bowtie coupler fibers with characteristics specifically developed to enable the fabrication of high performance, fused-taper, polarization maintaining (PM) couplers, primarily for the fiber sensor sector and in particular, for the next generations of fiber optic gyroscopes. 2008 saw significant growth in the Fiber Optic Gyroscope market and an emerging trend for higher performance variants in the sub-1.0&#176; per hour accuracy range.&#160; The new product line will be showcased at Photonics West (24 - 29 January 2009) on Fibercore Limited's booth #6071.
&#160;
The HB-C range has been developed in response to the demand for higher performance fiber sensors and utilises Fibercore's trademark HiBi 'bow-tie' structure.&#160; All fiber components, such as PM couplers benefit from reduced excess loss and also from intrinsic spatial filtering when compared with alternative, planar-waveguide based solutions .The HB-C range are also far easier to use in a manufacturing environment than earlier PM coupler fiber designs as the bow-tie stress members remain visible from the side thereby enabling visual alignment of the fibers' birefringent axes. HB800C and HB1500C have been designed to be compatible with Fibercore's industry-standard HB800G and HB1500G gyro fibers and are available for immediate trials.
&#160;
Dr Chris Emslie, Managing Director of Fibercore Limited, comments, “Our new HB-C range of products brings together over 20 years of experience working with bow-tie fibers. It delivers a solution that provides our customers with competitive advantage, straight out of the box. Yet again, Fibercore's consultative relationship with its clients has paid dividends as we have been able to use our three decades of experience in the industry to develop a solution that truly adds value.”
